01:00and uh so you were you you played and uh so you were you you played collegiate uh volleyball yeah oh cool collegiate uh volleyball yeah oh cool collegiate uh volleyball yeah oh cool at messiah college in pennsylvania and at messiah college in pennsylvania and at messiah college in pennsylvania and so yeah i so yeah i so yeah i moved on from that and started coaching moved on from that and started coaching moved on from that and started coaching and really fell in love with teaching and really fell in love with teaching and really fell in love with teaching um i didn't and i was like the last um i didn't and i was like the last um i didn't and i was like the last person that person that person that people thought would be a teacher you people thought would be a teacher you people thought would be a teacher you know compared to my siblings you know know compared to my siblings you know know compared to my siblings you know i had siblings that were really patient i had siblings that were really patient i had siblings that were really patient and like really good with kids and like really good with kids and like really good with kids it wasn't that i was bad with kids but i it wasn't that i was bad with kids but i it wasn't that i was bad with kids but i was you know i'm kind of a perfectionist was you know i'm kind of a perfectionist was you know i'm kind of a perfectionist in a lot of ways yeah in a lot of ways yeah in a lot of ways yeah and so i didn't always have the patience and so i didn't always have the patience and so i didn't always have the patience to like i had only had enough patience to like i had only had enough patience to like i had only had enough patience for myself to for myself to for myself to figure it out but when i fell into figure it out but when i fell into figure it out but when i fell into some uh mentorship situations where i some uh mentorship situations where i some uh mentorship situations where i was able to learn from olympic level was able to learn from olympic level was able to learn from olympic level volleyball coaches volleyball coaches volleyball coaches it completely changed my paradigm on it completely changed my paradigm on it completely changed my paradigm on learning but also then on teaching and i learning but also then on teaching and i learning but also then on teaching and i realized like realized like realized like i love to teach because i had frame a i love to teach because i had frame a i love to teach because i had frame a framework where i feel like framework where i feel like framework where i feel like i could offer people a pathway to i could offer people a pathway to i could offer people a pathway to changing their changing their changing their skill set and so that's what got me into skill set and so that's what got me into skill set and so that's what got me into volleyball and then that was volleyball and then that was volleyball and then that was about nine years that i did that about nine years that i did that about nine years that i did that professionally and that's what
02:00professionally and that's what professionally and that's what brought me to the bay area originally i brought me to the bay area originally i brought me to the bay area originally i was coaching at penn state um was coaching at penn state um was coaching at penn state um as the volunteer assistant there and as the volunteer assistant there and as the volunteer assistant there and then got hired out here at st mary's then got hired out here at st mary's then got hired out here at st mary's college college college and so i was coaching wow beach and and so i was coaching wow beach and and so i was coaching wow beach and indoor volleyball at st mary's indoor volleyball at st mary's indoor volleyball at st mary's and then eventually ended up at and then eventually ended up at and then eventually ended up at university of illinois university of illinois university of illinois so i'm back across the country and then so i'm back across the country and then so i'm back across the country and then most recently at cal berkeley most recently at cal berkeley most recently at cal berkeley a beach in indoor volleyball so wow so a beach in indoor volleyball so wow so a beach in indoor volleyball so wow so that was my that was my former career that was my that was my former career that was my that was my former career and it's it can be a pretty intense and it's it can be a pretty intense and it's it can be a pretty intense lifestyle especially during the fall but lifestyle especially during the fall but lifestyle especially during the fall but you know you've got recruiting you know you've got recruiting you know you've got recruiting and it's it's a year around it's pretty and it's it's a year around it's pretty and it's it's a year around it's pretty scripted in terms of like you're in a scripted in terms of like you're in a scripted in terms of like you're in a rhythm of rhythm of rhythm of traveling and you know working with a traveling and you know working with a traveling and you know working with a team season after season team season after season team season after season and so during that time i really started and so during that time i really started and so during that time i really started kind of kind of kind of feeling my limits in terms of feeling my limits in terms of feeling my limits in terms of performance mental performance performance mental performance performance mental performance within that framework um and for me that within that framework um and for me that within that framework um and for me that that started that started that started i mean i grew up my mom had a lot of i mean i grew up my mom had a lot of i mean i grew up my mom had a lot of my mom and dad were very um my mom and dad were very um my mom and dad were very um progressive in terms of like alternative
03:00progressive in terms of like alternative progressive in terms of like alternative health health health and so you know i grew up and was a and so you know i grew up and was a and so you know i grew up and was a vegan for a while vegan for a while vegan for a while i'm sorry yeah i'm just kidding i'm not i'm sorry yeah i'm just kidding i'm not i'm sorry yeah i'm just kidding i'm not anymore anymore anymore um but it was my mom had a lot of um but it was my mom had a lot of um but it was my mom had a lot of exploration in terms of exploration in terms of exploration in terms of alternative health and so growing up by alternative health and so growing up by alternative health and so growing up by examples like you know i was eating my examples like you know i was eating my examples like you know i was eating my dad's from guatemala so dad's from guatemala so dad's from guatemala so avocados were commonplace you know in avocados were commonplace you know in avocados were commonplace you know in our family and so our family and so our family and so if i would you know have a lunch and you if i would you know have a lunch and you if i would you know have a lunch and you know know know schoolmates would be looking at like schoolmates would be looking at like schoolmates would be looking at like what is guacamole like what is it what is guacamole like what is it what is guacamole like what is it where's your fruit roll up right bro where's your fruit roll up right bro where's your fruit roll up right bro yeah but at that time yeah but at that time yeah but at that time that stuff was was not commonplace now that stuff was was not commonplace now that stuff was was not commonplace now it's at subway it's everywhere it's at subway it's everywhere it's at subway it's everywhere but it's like people know what baba but it's like people know what baba but it's like people know what baba ganesh is now and ganesh is now and ganesh is now and like i had that stuff you know growing like i had that stuff you know growing like i had that stuff you know growing up because my mom was really tabuli and up because my mom was really tabuli and up because my mom was really tabuli and all you know all you know all you know mediterranean stuff and so um but even mediterranean stuff and so um but even mediterranean stuff and so um but even fasting like fasting like fasting like you know my dad had was working on a you know my dad had was working on a you know my dad had was working on a health issue health issue health issue when i was growing up and he was fasting when i was growing up and he was fasting when i was growing up and he was fasting doing extended fasting doing extended fasting doing extended fasting and so you know as a young person i was and so you know as a young person i was and so you know as a young person i was interested in it we didn't do
04:00interested in it we didn't do interested in it we didn't do i wasn't doing like water fast per se i wasn't doing like water fast per se i wasn't doing like water fast per se but it was like a juice fast or but it was like a juice fast or but it was like a juice fast or you know red apples only even as a kid you know red apples only even as a kid you know red apples only even as a kid yeah just because i mean it wasn't yeah just because i mean it wasn't yeah just because i mean it wasn't extended um and it was always just like extended um and it was always just like extended um and it was always just like because i was interested i wonder if because i was interested i wonder if because i was interested i wonder if like what would it feel like my dad's like what would it feel like my dad's like what would it feel like my dad's doing you know three days doing you know three days doing you know three days a week or whatever and so it's it's a week or whatever and so it's it's a week or whatever and so it's it's planted that question of like planted that question of like planted that question of like well maybe i don't need to eat today well maybe i don't need to eat today well maybe i don't need to eat today like and so that's pretty unique at a like and so that's pretty unique at a like and so that's pretty unique at a young age yeah it is young age yeah it is young age yeah it is and um and i was homeschooled and so i and um and i was homeschooled and so i and um and i was homeschooled and so i got to explore a lot of different areas got to explore a lot of different areas got to explore a lot of different areas you know fly fishing and stuff was you know fly fishing and stuff was you know fly fishing and stuff was a passion growing up and really just a passion growing up and really just a passion growing up and really just made me so cool made me so cool made me so cool uh a learner you know um and uh a learner you know um and uh a learner you know um and willing to research and explore things willing to research and explore things willing to research and explore things on my own and so on my own and so on my own and so yeah anyway coaching volleyball um as i yeah anyway coaching volleyball um as i yeah anyway coaching volleyball um as i started questioning hey like i don't started questioning hey like i don't started questioning hey like i don't feel like i'm performing as well as i feel like i'm performing as well as i feel like i'm performing as well as i could could could um cognitively and then just physically um cognitively and then just physically um cognitively and then just physically it's like hey it's like hey it's like hey i don't i don't have as much time to i don't i don't have as much time to i don't i don't have as much time to exercise or i'm not taking the time exercise or i'm not taking the time exercise or i'm not taking the time maybe it's a better way to maybe it's a better way to maybe it's a better way to put it this is when you're as a coach put it this is when you're as a coach put it this is when you're as a coach yeah yeah and so you know working at it
05:00yeah yeah and so you know working at it yeah yeah and so you know working at it in the big ten coaching volleyball it's in the big ten coaching volleyball it's in the big ten coaching volleyball it's it's pretty intense you know it's pretty intense you know it's pretty intense you know five hours a night and you know up late five hours a night and you know up late five hours a night and you know up late watching tape watching tape watching tape um you know and so you're in front of a um you know and so you're in front of a um you know and so you're in front of a screen until the minute you know you hit screen until the minute you know you hit screen until the minute you know you hit hit the pillow and then hit the pillow and then hit the pillow and then you're up early in the morning at you're up early in the morning at you're up early in the morning at practice and then it's a pretty intense practice and then it's a pretty intense practice and then it's a pretty intense schedule and so schedule and so schedule and so that you know helped me feel into my that you know helped me feel into my that you know helped me feel into my limits and limits and limits and um i wasn't not only in terms of um i wasn't not only in terms of um i wasn't not only in terms of performance but happiness i wasn't where performance but happiness i wasn't where performance but happiness i wasn't where i wanted to be i wanted to be i wanted to be um yeah physically mentally and so um um yeah physically mentally and so um um yeah physically mentally and so um that really started a journey of me that really started a journey of me that really started a journey of me taking ownership of that and i did have taking ownership of that and i did have taking ownership of that and i did have some background and some skills to say some background and some skills to say some background and some skills to say hey hey hey like start asking some pretty relevant like start asking some pretty relevant like start asking some pretty relevant questions about diet questions about diet questions about diet about sleep and so i started kind of about sleep and so i started kind of about sleep and so i started kind of digging into that digging into that digging into that and as i did i just started i think and as i did i just started i think and as i did i just started i think really one of the first things i decided really one of the first things i decided really one of the first things i decided to re-engage was to re-engage was to re-engage was i mean i was i ate really well all i mean i was i ate really well all i mean i was i ate really well all growing up i went to college and it was growing up i went to college and it was growing up i went to college and it was like i'm at a cafeteria like like i'm at a cafeteria like like i'm at a cafeteria like i'm i can't it was just too much to be i'm i can't it was just too much to be i'm i can't it was just too much to be so focused on that in uh at that time in
06:00so focused on that in uh at that time in so focused on that in uh at that time in my life so i kind of just my life so i kind of just my life so i kind of just let go of the reins and eat whatever i let go of the reins and eat whatever i let go of the reins and eat whatever i was still conscious i was was still conscious i was was still conscious i was yeah but um so yeah but um so yeah but um so to re-engage that was like the first to re-engage that was like the first to re-engage that was like the first step was like i just made a commitment step was like i just made a commitment step was like i just made a commitment to myself i'm gonna like turn over and to myself i'm gonna like turn over and to myself i'm gonna like turn over and read the label like i'm gonna know read the label like i'm gonna know read the label like i'm gonna know what's in it i'm gonna start what's in it i'm gonna start what's in it i'm gonna start just learning about that yeah started just learning about that yeah started just learning about that yeah started building awareness back near yeah building awareness back near yeah building awareness back near yeah no real rules around what i was doing no real rules around what i was doing no real rules around what i was doing but it was like hey i'm gonna but it was like hey i'm gonna but it was like hey i'm gonna i'm gonna start doing this that was like i'm gonna start doing this that was like i'm gonna start doing this that was like a first step and from there i started a first step and from there i started a first step and from there i started experimenting with low carb and keto experimenting with low carb and keto experimenting with low carb and keto stuff you know those four or five years stuff you know those four or five years stuff you know those four or five years ago that ago that ago that um maybe a little longer than that that um maybe a little longer than that that um maybe a little longer than that that i was trying starting to play with like i was trying starting to play with like i was trying starting to play with like okay okay okay what did what how do these variables what did what how do these variables what did what how do these variables affect my affect my affect my everyday well-being yeah um and so in everyday well-being yeah um and so in everyday well-being yeah um and so in that journey i just i started digging in that journey i just i started digging in that journey i just i started digging in and i and i and i actually was part of the bulletproof actually was part of the bulletproof actually was part of the bulletproof coaching program years ago coaching program years ago coaching program years ago and um me too oh yeah yeah yeah so that and um me too oh yeah yeah yeah so that and um me too oh yeah yeah yeah so that was that was kind of for me too 2016 was that was kind of for me too 2016 was that was kind of for me too 2016 new york is where i was at okay so i new york is where i was at okay so i new york is where i was at okay so i think i was 2017 new york think i was 2017 new york think i was 2017 new york okay yeah so perfect yeah amazing and so
07:00okay yeah so perfect yeah amazing and so okay yeah so perfect yeah amazing and so i i started that and that i i started that and that i i started that and that um that that assisted with that process um that that assisted with that process um that that assisted with that process of like how i was of like how i was of like how i was you know diving into it you know i that you know diving into it you know i that you know diving into it you know i that wasn't a centerpiece wasn't a centerpiece wasn't a centerpiece in my experience honestly um but in my experience honestly um but in my experience honestly um but that was a part of my exploration and that was a part of my exploration and that was a part of my exploration and and i really and i really and i really my departure from coaching collegiate my departure from coaching collegiate my departure from coaching collegiate volleyball was really based in wanting volleyball was really based in wanting volleyball was really based in wanting to to to um share some of the things i was um share some of the things i was um share some of the things i was discovering discovering discovering um with other people and realizing that um with other people and realizing that um with other people and realizing that in the collegiate in the collegiate in the collegiate athletics scene i i wasn't allowed to do athletics scene i i wasn't allowed to do athletics scene i i wasn't allowed to do that that that like from we had a nutritionist on staff like from we had a nutritionist on staff like from we had a nutritionist on staff we had we had we had you know people on staff that were in you know people on staff that were in you know people on staff that were in positions too and they were positions too and they were positions too and they were professionals and so professionals and so professionals and so yeah the liability side is like i can't yeah the liability side is like i can't yeah the liability side is like i can't tell who are you yeah a bulletproof tell who are you yeah a bulletproof tell who are you yeah a bulletproof coach telling people well i mean i coach telling people well i mean i coach telling people well i mean i wasn't even a bulletproof coach wasn't even a bulletproof coach wasn't even a bulletproof coach you know it was just more like hey you you know it was just more like hey you you know it was just more like hey you have autoimmune things going on on your have autoimmune things going on on your have autoimmune things going on on your team and team and team and you know you know that stuff is is real you know you know that stuff is is real you know you know that stuff is is real and it and it and it affects a huge portion of the population affects a huge portion of the population affects a huge portion of the population and
08:00and and not being able to offer any even not being able to offer any even not being able to offer any even suggestions not i mean suggestions not i mean suggestions not i mean not even like guidance really but just not even like guidance really but just not even like guidance really but just like hey have you thought about like hey have you thought about like hey have you thought about gag order huh for you guys yeah pretty gag order huh for you guys yeah pretty gag order huh for you guys yeah pretty much i mean because much i mean because much i mean because the liability is too great if that the liability is too great if that the liability is too great if that player then that's a lot of money going player then that's a lot of money going player then that's a lot of money going to that college to that college to that college lost or whatever yeah and you don't want lost or whatever yeah and you don't want lost or whatever yeah and you don't want you know people can claim really quickly you know people can claim really quickly you know people can claim really quickly that that the downstream effects whether it be an the downstream effects whether it be an the downstream effects whether it be an eating disorder or whatever you know if eating disorder or whatever you know if eating disorder or whatever you know if you you you chime in with suggestions it's just not chime in with suggestions it's just not chime in with suggestions it's just not really the place for that really the place for that really the place for that um yeah and so it really started um yeah and so it really started um yeah and so it really started weighing on me like i want to weighing on me like i want to weighing on me like i want to share this stuff that is having a share this stuff that is having a share this stuff that is having a positive impact on me positive impact on me positive impact on me and i wanted to broaden my impact in and i wanted to broaden my impact in and i wanted to broaden my impact in that way and so that way and so that way and so long term collegiate volleyball wasn't long term collegiate volleyball wasn't long term collegiate volleyball wasn't where i wanted to be where i wanted to be where i wanted to be i soon realized and i started exploring i soon realized and i started exploring i soon realized and i started exploring and started and started and started helping people you know from a lifestyle helping people you know from a lifestyle helping people you know from a lifestyle coaching standpoint yeah coaching standpoint yeah coaching standpoint yeah because i had done so much exploration because i had done so much exploration because i had done so much exploration and had a skill set that i felt like i and had a skill set that i felt like i and had a skill set that i felt like i could offer could offer could offer some help there and so that's when i some help there and so that's when i some help there and so that's when i first found first found first found the livo2 the oxygen system that i use the livo2 the oxygen system that i use the livo2 the oxygen system that i use and um and um
