01:00my rain out started my rain out started when i when i when i first got experience well first got experience well first got experience well when i first experienced my rare nouns when i first experienced my rare nouns when i first experienced my rare nouns is different to probably when it started is different to probably when it started is different to probably when it started or when it was programmed into my system or when it was programmed into my system or when it was programmed into my system so when i first noticed my rain mouse so when i first noticed my rain mouse so when i first noticed my rain mouse was when i went skiing as a 20 year old was when i went skiing as a 20 year old was when i went skiing as a 20 year old i got these cold cans and feet which was i got these cold cans and feet which was i got these cold cans and feet which was unpleasant but nothing too much to worry unpleasant but nothing too much to worry unpleasant but nothing too much to worry about about about um and at the time i was in australia um and at the time i was in australia um and at the time i was in australia and then i moved to the uk and i love and then i moved to the uk and i love and then i moved to the uk and i love doing outdoor sports i'm always mountain doing outdoor sports i'm always mountain doing outdoor sports i'm always mountain biking hiking skiing whatever in the biking hiking skiing whatever in the biking hiking skiing whatever in the cold cold cold in this country and in this country and in this country and frequently experiencing frequently experiencing frequently experiencing very painful cold hands and feet which very painful cold hands and feet which very painful cold hands and feet which tended to get worse over time tended to get worse over time tended to get worse over time and it was just one of those things that and it was just one of those things that and it was just one of those things that didn't stop me didn't stop me didn't stop me doing my activities i loved the doing my activities i loved the doing my activities i loved the activities activities activities even though i didn't want the symptoms even though i didn't want the symptoms even though i didn't want the symptoms that you know didn't do anything i that you know didn't do anything i that you know didn't do anything i didn't do anything about them until didn't do anything about them until didn't do anything about them until two years ago skiing with a friend of two years ago skiing with a friend of two years ago skiing with a friend of mine who has rainouts and he takes knife mine who has rainouts and he takes knife mine who has rainouts and he takes knife and that's a medication that chain
02:00and that's a medication that chain and that's a medication that chain increases the circulation to your hands increases the circulation to your hands increases the circulation to your hands and feet and feet and feet um and of course then i was skiing with um and of course then i was skiing with um and of course then i was skiing with absolutely no pain i thought this is absolutely no pain i thought this is absolutely no pain i thought this is fantastic give me more of these drugs fantastic give me more of these drugs fantastic give me more of these drugs um and so um and so um and so but of course drugs don't do come with but of course drugs don't do come with but of course drugs don't do come with side effects and really not a desirable side effects and really not a desirable side effects and really not a desirable way to to deal with it but then fast way to to deal with it but then fast way to to deal with it but then fast forward another year which is a year ago forward another year which is a year ago forward another year which is a year ago just winter last year and i just winter last year and i just winter last year and i came across georgie and came across georgie and came across georgie and training in the mind body and learning a training in the mind body and learning a training in the mind body and learning a lot more about the autonomic nervous lot more about the autonomic nervous lot more about the autonomic nervous system system system and and and mind-body control and it occurred to me mind-body control and it occurred to me mind-body control and it occurred to me that that that well ray announces a well ray announces a well ray announces a over-reaction of the auto-economic over-reaction of the auto-economic over-reaction of the auto-economic nervous system in response to a cold nervous system in response to a cold nervous system in response to a cold trigger trigger trigger so so so maybe i could apply these mind-body maybe i could apply these mind-body maybe i could apply these mind-body principles i'd be learning about to principles i'd be learning about to principles i'd be learning about to myself because i know as you would agree myself because i know as you would agree myself because i know as you would agree when when you learn about this stuff when when you learn about this stuff when when you learn about this stuff when you apply it to yourself and have when you apply it to yourself and have when you apply it to yourself and have the personal experience the personal experience the personal experience it is so powerful it is so powerful it is so powerful in your belief and being able to use
03:00in your belief and being able to use in your belief and being able to use that that and fortunately um i have i'm not and fortunately um i have i'm not and fortunately um i have i'm not someone who's who's suffered with someone who's who's suffered with someone who's who's suffered with chronic pain that's not what's brought chronic pain that's not what's brought chronic pain that's not what's brought me to the mind body it's more through um me to the mind body it's more through um me to the mind body it's more through um as a physiotherapist having patients as a physiotherapist having patients as a physiotherapist having patients suffer with chronic pain that's brought suffer with chronic pain that's brought suffer with chronic pain that's brought me to this sort of arena and and quest me to this sort of arena and and quest me to this sort of arena and and quest to understand to understand to understand but personally i wanted to be able to but personally i wanted to be able to but personally i wanted to be able to try it out on myself and try it out on myself and try it out on myself and and how this came about was and how this came about was and how this came about was um last winter my husband um because he um last winter my husband um because he um last winter my husband um because he likes to joke he knows i hate the cold likes to joke he knows i hate the cold likes to joke he knows i hate the cold so it's great entertainment to him he so it's great entertainment to him he so it's great entertainment to him he put these cold hands on my rib cage put these cold hands on my rib cage put these cold hands on my rib cage because it gets a because it gets a because it gets a that's a fantastic reaction that's a fantastic reaction that's a fantastic reaction so i at this so i at this so i at this and was just after i just started and was just after i just started and was just after i just started training um in surfer and in that moment training um in surfer and in that moment training um in surfer and in that moment i just screamed i hate the cold and i i just screamed i hate the cold and i i just screamed i hate the cold and i just i oh just i oh just i oh okay okay okay and i just had that moment where a light and i just had that moment where a light and i just had that moment where a light bulb went up in my head because up until bulb went up in my head because up until bulb went up in my head because up until this point i hadn't thought of applying this point i hadn't thought of applying this point i hadn't thought of applying it to the rain house on myself and i
04:00it to the rain house on myself and i it to the rain house on myself and i thought hang on i hate the cold thought hang on i hate the cold thought hang on i hate the cold maybe this has got something to do while maybe this has got something to do while maybe this has got something to do while my nervous system is trying to protect my nervous system is trying to protect my nervous system is trying to protect me from going in the cold by making it me from going in the cold by making it me from going in the cold by making it really unpleasant really unpleasant really unpleasant and so i just at that moment sat down on and so i just at that moment sat down on and so i just at that moment sat down on my bed and i asked myself the question my bed and i asked myself the question my bed and i asked myself the question and i said why do i hate the cold what's and i said why do i hate the cold what's and i said why do i hate the cold what's this all about this all about this all about and weirdly this memory popped up which and weirdly this memory popped up which and weirdly this memory popped up which is something i hadn't remember thought is something i hadn't remember thought is something i hadn't remember thought about for a long time and it was when i about for a long time and it was when i about for a long time and it was when i was about eight years old we went on was about eight years old we went on was about eight years old we went on holidays in australia holidays in australia holidays in australia and we went to the snowy mountains and and we went to the snowy mountains and and we went to the snowy mountains and it was kind of it was kind of it was kind of after winter so it's gone all icy well i after winter so it's gone all icy well i after winter so it's gone all icy well i grew up in brisbane which is subtropical grew up in brisbane which is subtropical grew up in brisbane which is subtropical i'd never seen ice before this was the i'd never seen ice before this was the i'd never seen ice before this was the most exciting thing i'd ever seen in my most exciting thing i'd ever seen in my most exciting thing i'd ever seen in my life and there's this big slope of ice life and there's this big slope of ice life and there's this big slope of ice and my dad thought it'd be really funny and my dad thought it'd be really funny and my dad thought it'd be really funny to push me down this slope of ice to push me down this slope of ice to push me down this slope of ice so i got pushed down this slope of ice so i got pushed down this slope of ice so i got pushed down this slope of ice and i can remember it being really cold and i can remember it being really cold and i can remember it being really cold having cold numb and screaming all the having cold numb and screaming all the having cold numb and screaming all the way way way um but that's not what caused my reigns
05:00um but that's not what caused my reigns um but that's not what caused my reigns however however however what happened next what happened next what happened next i think is what's called cause the i think is what's called cause the i think is what's called cause the priming event the emotional priming priming event the emotional priming priming event the emotional priming event event event in my rainbows and that was um in my rainbows and that was um in my rainbows and that was um i was wearing jeans and i've got a i was wearing jeans and i've got a i was wearing jeans and i've got a younger brother and we were sightseeing younger brother and we were sightseeing younger brother and we were sightseeing and i didn't have a change of clothes so and i didn't have a change of clothes so and i didn't have a change of clothes so i had to walk around this town i had to walk around this town i had to walk around this town with wet pants and it looked like i'd with wet pants and it looked like i'd with wet pants and it looked like i'd keep myself keep myself keep myself and to a young eight-year-old girl this and to a young eight-year-old girl this and to a young eight-year-old girl this was like highly embarrassing and was like highly embarrassing and was like highly embarrassing and shameful and horrible and it was a shameful and horrible and it was a shameful and horrible and it was a really uncomfortable experience really uncomfortable experience really uncomfortable experience and and i in that moment that memory and and i in that moment that memory and and i in that moment that memory just popped up when i asked the question just popped up when i asked the question just popped up when i asked the question i thought yeah my nervous system doesn't i thought yeah my nervous system doesn't i thought yeah my nervous system doesn't want me to feel those really want me to feel those really want me to feel those really uncomfortable emotions uncomfortable emotions uncomfortable emotions wow but then i didn't actually then get wow but then i didn't actually then get wow but then i didn't actually then get exposed to cold for another you know exposed to cold for another you know exposed to cold for another you know 12 years 12 years 12 years so it wasn't until 12 years later when i so it wasn't until 12 years later when i so it wasn't until 12 years later when i went skiing went skiing went skiing for the first time the first time i was for the first time the first time i was for the first time the first time i was exposed to cold conditions that i had
