07:00thinking about your breathing you're thinking about your breathing you're like being very intentional like being very intentional like being very intentional and that's what it takes to like you know like get through it yeah i you know like get through it yeah i don't know don't know don't know um so all right so preparing for this um so all right so preparing for this um so all right so preparing for this this talk i didn't know a lot of the this talk i didn't know a lot of the this talk i didn't know a lot of the research behind research behind research behind saunas and ice baths i'd heard a lot saunas and ice baths i'd heard a lot saunas and ice baths i'd heard a lot and um and i mean i i loved getting in and um and i mean i i loved getting in and um and i mean i i loved getting in the sauna myself the sauna myself the sauna myself and then when i was studying and then when i was studying and then when i was studying for the my physical therapy national for the my physical therapy national for the my physical therapy national board exam board exam board exam uh i was doing cold showers like i would uh i was doing cold showers like i would uh i was doing cold showers like i would take a warm shower take a warm shower take a warm shower and then like the last little bit i and then like the last little bit i and then like the last little bit i would turn it on all the way cold would turn it on all the way cold would turn it on all the way cold and just sit there for a while and it and just sit there for a while and it and just sit there for a while and it sucked it was nice because it'll wake me sucked it was nice because it'll wake me sucked it was nice because it'll wake me up in the morning and get me going but up in the morning and get me going but up in the morning and get me going but it was bad um it was bad um it was bad um during law school yeah so just like that during law school yeah so just like that during law school yeah so just like that um so like with that i just didn't know um so like with that i just didn't know um so like with that i just didn't know a lot of the research a lot of the research a lot of the research everything that i was hearing i was like
08:00everything that i was hearing i was like everything that i was hearing i was like oh there's all these health benefits but oh there's all these health benefits but oh there's all these health benefits but they'll never talk about the health they'll never talk about the health they'll never talk about the health benefits benefits benefits that's you know that's like oh eating that's you know that's like oh eating that's you know that's like oh eating right is good for you and they just right is good for you and they just right is good for you and they just never talk about never talk about never talk about anything i just say it's good for you anything i just say it's good for you anything i just say it's good for you right wow right wow right wow um but i found it interesting that there are like a ton of different health there are like a ton of different health benefits for sauna benefits for sauna benefits for sauna and um like reducing blood pressure and um like reducing blood pressure and um like reducing blood pressure um just any like cardiovascular um just any like cardiovascular um just any like cardiovascular marker you think like there's been a marker you think like there's been a marker you think like there's been a research study about it with sauna research study about it with sauna research study about it with sauna and so it's pretty interesting but and so it's pretty interesting but and so it's pretty interesting but with ice baths with ice baths with ice baths nothing like everything is nothing like everything is nothing like everything is everything is um placebo what they found everything is um placebo what they found everything is um placebo what they found um do it or like anecdotal um do it or like anecdotal um do it or like anecdotal yeah um and so it especially yeah um and so it especially yeah um and so it especially so many athletes that's like a
09:00so many athletes that's like a so many athletes that's like a common thing of like oh yeah after common thing of like oh yeah after common thing of like oh yeah after soccer practice like go get my staff soccer practice like go get my staff soccer practice like go get my staff like like like yeah yeah so there were two things there yeah yeah so there were two things there yeah yeah so there were two things there that that that um that one we just didn't know why we um that one we just didn't know why we um that one we just didn't know why we did that did that did that um and still with ice for a long time to um and still with ice for a long time to um and still with ice for a long time to treat injuries treat injuries treat injuries uh we would do ice but now especially uh we would do ice but now especially uh we would do ice but now especially like with the push with athletic like with the push with athletic like with the push with athletic training and what we know about that now training and what we know about that now training and what we know about that now we're straying away from ice because we're straying away from ice because we're straying away from ice because you're just delaying the healing you're just delaying the healing you're just delaying the healing response response response it might feel good it might reduce it might feel good it might reduce it might feel good it might reduce swelling things like that but swelling things like that but swelling things like that but your body needs blood flow to that area your body needs blood flow to that area your body needs blood flow to that area to heal to heal to heal it so ice really isn't that great yeah it so ice really isn't that great yeah it so ice really isn't that great yeah so not sure why we have always done like so not sure why we have always done like so not sure why we have always done like oh yeah you did a hard oh yeah you did a hard oh yeah you did a hard you know workout or you had a hard you know workout or you had a hard you know workout or you had a hard practice go jump in the ice bath not practice go jump in the ice bath not practice go jump in the ice bath not sure why we did that sure why we did that sure why we did that um but the second thing um was that it um but the second thing um was that it um but the second thing um was that it didn't matter didn't matter didn't matter um like how long you're in the ice bath um like how long you're in the ice bath um like how long you're in the ice bath how cold the ice bath was how cold the ice bath was how cold the ice bath was um and all that and so it really
